Gareth Evans tired
THE fierce energy that has made Gareth Evans one of Australia’s hardest-working political figures appears to have finally burnt out.
The former foreign minister has decided to step down after 9 1/2 years running a conflict-resolution non-government organisation based in Brussels, and will return to Melbourne.I was hoping he’d stay away for ever. Now we are going to have him in Australia ranting about Nuclear weapons while all we are really interested in is the financial crisis and a PM spending like a drunken sailor.
Mr Evans is the second former senior politician to return to Australia from Europe recently, following former Democrats leader Cheryl Kernot’s decision to leave a position at the Skoll Centre for Social Entrepreneurs at Oxford University to become an associate professor at the Centre for Social Impact at the University of NSW.Gee! What an amazing coincidence.
