Anna just doesn’t get it

The LNP started the week by announcing their Better Access to Specialist Care policy.

On Monday Anna Bligh accuses CanDO of official misconduct whilst Lord Mayor

In Cairns on Tuesday, the LNP announced a Regional College for Disaster Management and their policy for Breaking the Cycle of Youth Crime, which includes boosting the number of school based police.

On Thursday, the LNP announced their plan to support the agricultural industry by investing in research and development as well as training. CanDo was joined by former Prime Minister John Howard in the Ashgrove Electorate for the announcement of their Blueprint for Queensland Small Businesses

On Friday in Springwood the LNP announced their Education Policy and their goal to make Queensland one of the leading states for literacy and numeracy by 2020.

On Friday Anna Bligh received the Flood Inquiry report which could open up the state to billions in litigation and accuses CanDO of official misconduct whilst Lord Mayor.

On Saturday The CMC report on Anna’s accusations;

“In all matters, the CMC has established there is currently no evidence of official misconduct on the part of Campbell Newman in relation to the allegations raised while he was Lord Mayor of Brisbane,”
“On that basis, the CMC will not be conducting any investigation in relation to Mr Newman.”

She doesn’t even pause to accept the truth.

On Saturday Anna Bligh still accuses CanDO of official misconduct whilst Lord Mayor

She steadfastly refuses to apologise. She goes on to say it is too early to tell if Liberal National Party leader Campbell Newman will be cleared of corruption claims.

What part of “there is no evidence of official misconduct” don’t you understand, Anna?

So, a week of the LNP issuing policy statements while Anna continues to accuse CanDo of misconduct in spite of the CMC saying there isn’t any evidence to support her claim.

No ALP policies, other than free swimming lessons, just baseless accusations – that’s all the ammo she has left. She knows she cannot stand on her own record, it being so abysmal, so her only hope of maintaining power is to slander the opposition and hope enough voters fall for her lies.

On all accounts it’s not working…roll on Saturday!

Smith simply doesn’t respect the ADF

I started the last post with this: I’ve always maintained that the ALP do not like the ADF. Readers took to me to task and one even abused me as he raced to justify Minister Smith’s latest foray into attacking Defence.

My opinion still stands and has been confirmed by this morning’s article in The Age by MAJGEN John Cantwell.

Some extracts:

I spent long hours over many sessions briefing the then minister, Joel Fitzgibbon. It was a painful process. Fitzgibbon was out of his depth. He simply didn’t get it. Not only could he not understand what we were trying to tell him, he didn’t put in the time to try to get across his brief.
He was an auto-electrician in a suit.

But at least Fitzgibbon occasionally expressed a desire to do the right thing by the service personnel who delivered our military capability.

Not so Smith. Reflecting on Smith’s visit to Afghanistan MAJGEN Cantwell recalls;

…the abiding impression I was left with was that he merely tolerated people like me and the troops I commanded. I cast around in my mind for the element that seemed to be missing in his dealings with the men and women of the ADF who I led. Then I had it: respect. Smith had no respect for those who chose to serve in uniform for their country. It was an uncomfortable insight.

He closes with this;

I sense that the judgment I formed in 2010 was on the money. There’s no respect, and it works both ways.

ADF vs the Defence Minister and the Media

I’ve always maintained that the ALP do not like the ADF. They hate the officer system and spend most of their time in the treasury benches initiating inquiries that all seem to recommend less money while demanding the same service. As in they are currently demanding a $20 billion savings over then next decade in the defence budget.

This current mob appears to have an agenda to denigrate the military in any way they can. I heard on the ABC today that one of Defence Minister Smith’s inquisitions have identified 757 cases of sexual misconduct some of which occurred in the 1950s. The 1950s FFS! Who can remember anything sexual from that far back. I’ve got another one for them. In the 70s whilst the battalion were practicing for a parade the RSM said I looked like a kangaroo dog rooting a marble.

I think a lot of the 757 cases will be at about that level.. I did hear old mate Duncan Lewis (now Secretary of Defence), interviewed and he did say some of the cases are serious. I”m sure they are but hey, it looks like we are talking about 60 years of misconduct – that ain’t all that bad. Maybe a standard week at University’s ‘O’ weeks

Jack Waterford at the Canberra Times says Diggers need just a little slack;

WAS EVER so much nonsense spoken as when politicians, journalists and feminist and ethnic icons vie with ancient generals, clergymen and academics to condemn the latest evidences that our soldiers, sailors and air persons are profane, cynical and somewhat racist and sexist young men and women?

As if all this wasn’t bad enough, Defence has been lumbered with Smith as Minister. His opinion of the military and procedural knowledge of same has been clearly shown to be lacking. He sacked Kafer, the Commandant of ADFA despite there being no evidence that he had acted incompetently or had made an error of judgement in the Skype/sex ADFA video.

The Smith initiated inquisition found no evidence of incompetence and yet Smith has sat on that report for three months and only now does Kafer get to sit in the Commandants chair at ADFA.

Smith doesn’t give up easy though “I remain of the view that this was an error of judgment,” he says even after reading the report that categorically said that Kafer did not make an error of judgement.

and this;

Asked if Commodore Kafer had his full confidence, Mr Smith sidestepped the question, saying he had full confidence in Australian Defence Force chief David Hurley and other defence leaders

Tosser! I can promise him that the ADF do not have any confidence in their minister.

….and Smith was mentioned as a potential PM – what is it with these people?

UPDATE:

Back of the envelope quick calculations by reader Harry Buttle indicate that;

[the ADF] sexual assault figures comes out at 5.3 per month per 80,000 persons, or to put it another way means that as a group, on this particular crime over the last 60 years, the military is in fact more than 5 x more law abiding than society in general.

No sexual assault is acceptable, but this looks like another hatchet job.

Ray Finkelstein’s review

PRINT and online news will come under direct federal government oversight for the first time under proposals issued last week to create a statutory regulator with the power to prosecute media companies in the courts. Ray Finklestein

The historic change to media law would break with tradition by using government funds to replace an industry council that acts on complaints, in a move fiercely opposed by companies as a threat to the freedom of the press.

Bloggers and other online authors would also be captured by a regime applying to any news site that gets more than 15,000 hits a year, a benchmark labelled “seriously dopey” by one site operator.

Even this tiny part of the cyber-world gets 130,000 hits a month so this site operator also labels the plan “seriously dopey”

That’s two of us.

And who uses ‘Hits” as a measuring tool these days. No one, and that would suggest the review is seriously misinformed. Ray Finkelstein needs to vet his “expert advice”.

Number of visits is a better guide and even then I exceed the yearly mark every month. Talk about a catch-all solution. I look forward to deep and meaningful discussions with the ALP luvvies – I plan to start the negotiations by saying Communications Minister Stephen Conroy is a f###wit.

I imagine such profanity would give the Inquisition staff the vapours and have them loose their train of thought.

All of the above brought to you by anti-News Corp paranoia based on a newspaper in another country tapping someone’s telephone. If your paranoia is bad enough it will lead you to claim all media with a News Corp connection will do the same and this problem, which doesn’t actually exist, needs regulation.

Chris Kenny, in today’s Australian agrees with me;

It traces its genesis, in part, to revelations about the illegal activities of the London tabloids. More disturbingly, the inquiry admits it was established because senior members of the Gillard government and its Green coalition partner believed they were being subjected to jaundiced political coverage.

So a government that is struggling has initiated a media inquiry because not all media is as generous towards it as are the ABC and the Fairfax newspapers.

I’ve got a feeling that it wont get up and we will be looking at another episode of tilting at windmills but at the very least, always looking for a positive, it does serve to underline the governments stupidity.

God free us of these pests.

Gillard admits she lied

JULIA Gillard has confirmed she held talks with former NSW premier Bob Carr over drafting him to serve in her government, sparking fresh opposition attacks on her honesty and political judgment.

The Prime Minister has backed away from her claim that a report in The Australian on Wednesday revealing her dealings with Mr Carr was “completely untrue”, after being challenged by the opposition to repeat her claim in parliament.

Of course she won’t do that – it’s a sackable offence so she just sticks to lying to the media

The Australian newspaper reported on Wednesday Ms Gillard offered Mr Carr the minister job last week, after Kevin Rudd resigned to contest the Labor leadership and before Senator Mark Arbib announced he would retire from the upper house.

Ms Gillard told reporters in Canberra: “The story that’s on the front page of the Australian newspaper today is completely untrue.”

Time and time again she gets caught out and yet there still are people prepared to vote for her.

Amazing!

Windsor’s confused

TONY Abbott has declared independents Tony Windsor and Rob Oakeshott are effectively Labor MPs as they refuse to contemplate supporting a no-confidence motion against the government.

The Opposition Leader challenged Mr Windsor and Mr Oakeshott to state publicly whether they still supported Julia Gillard after the Labor Party’s week of leadership turmoil.

Windsor replies;

“The question really is would I support a no-confidence motion on the basis of someone aspiring to leadership to a political party – the answer is no,” Mr Windsor said

It has nothing to do with Tony’s leadership. That is well and truly established but it has everything to do with the stability of the government. One of the reasons Windsor backed Gillard was to ensure “stable government” and that is definitely no longer the case – if it ever was.

The fact that Windsor ignores the question indicates he is just looking after himself because he knows that if a no-confidence motion gets through he will lose his seat.

Greed – the ultimate motivation.

Roll on Tuesday

Kevin being popular in Brisbane is a Kevin invention. Pulling a crowd in the Queen Street Mall is easily organized and if you look at the video, it’s all kids. Go in there anytime, after having alerted the media so they can get their TV cameras to record their favourite news item being mugged, and you have a crowd all eager to get on TV.

Rudd strategist Bruce Hawker said dozens of Labor MPs would lose their seats under Julia Gillard’s leadership.

“Anyone that decides that they are not going to vote for him and they are on a margin of less then 10 per cent, kiss your seat goodbye; its all over, you’ll regret at leisure,” he told Network Ten

I’ve got bad news for you Bruce. Even if they do vote for Rudd they will lose their seat. Do you think the public are enjoying this shit. Do you really believe that Rudd has changed his spots?

He hasn’t and is still as dysfunctional as he was before and it will only take a month or so for people to remember why they didn’t like him on his first sojourn into politics.

Anyone who can string two words together and smile at the same time can out poll Gillard but that just makes him a winner in a two horse race with the other horse running lame. No big deal.

I dislike Gillard but at least she functions and has points on the board even if I don’t like the outcomes but Rudd has simply never achieved anything.

My preferred outcome? Rudd loses on Monday, goes to the backbench and snipes every other day until the election with the end result of these clowns being sent to the opposition seats until they remember what leading a country is all about.

As part of the keep Gillard campaign, Kate Ellis has dobbed Kevin in for a politically incorrect spray at Gillard in South Australia. He is alleged to have referred to Ms Gillard as a “childless, atheist, ex-communist’.

It might be unkind of Kev to say that but every word is true so I don’t quite get Kate’s point.

They’ll be eating their kids next

All I want to do is sit and watch the ALP house burn down but unfortunately I’ve got a BAS to do and a website to build. Still, until Monday it’s only words so maybe tomorrow I can buy some popcorn, pull up a chair and enjoy the show.

I read where Newspoll are releasing their poll on Monday instead of the usual Tuesday so that will help with the drama.

Gillard and Rudd are campaigning for the dubious honour of leading the ALP to a thrashing at the next election. I don’t care what Rudd says – he will never be a leader and Gillard will more than likely win the spill on Monday and continue on her inept way.

Abbott is getting a well earned rest. Nothing for him to do really…just sit there and watch the ALP implode. He is redundant for the next few days and when it is all resolved he can attack what’s left.

Whether Gillard or Rudd are in the chair next week – Abbott has plenty of targets..instability…recycled losers…can’t run their party – how can they run a country…Rudd spoke of Climate Change being the greatest moral decision of our time and then dropped the ETS- Gillard said she never would have a Carbon tax and then legislated for it…Rudd cancelled a working Boat people programme and Gillard thought she would try East Timor but forgot to talk to the relevant people in ET…the list goes on but you will get to hear it all over the next year odd.

Win-win really.

Game on

Pickering at his best. Brought out of archives by daugter J

How rediculous, how second rate must we appear to the world. Whitlam and Keating pale into insignificance when compared with these ego warriors.

You can tell by watching Rudd that he truly believes that the people love him and all would agree unanimously that he was treated poorly. Well he was treated poorly but for a good reason – he was dysfunctional as a leader.

I watched Gillard’s campaign address to caucus (some thought she was talking to the Australian electorate) and it is apparent that she simply doesn’t get it. Talking about moving forward and getting on with the job can only work for brief time if you don’t actually move forward or get on with the job.

Emerson has been touted as Foreign Affairs. It might have worked when pillow talk would have resolved problems but now that Emerson’s marriage, and the worlds of his wife and kids have collapsed, it just seems like a pat on the head to soften the Dear John letter

Smith, too has been touted but after his handling of the ADFA scandal where he was quick to insist on Commodore Bruce Kafer’s removal on incomplete evidence, but has been too slow to reinstate him on the complete evidence that has exonerated him, I have wiped him from my register of reasonable players

Up until the ADFA scandal I actually thought Smith was one of the few competent players in the ALP but alas, his shallow understanding of his portfolio and lack of support for the ADF, has shown him for what he is.

I watched Combet at the Press Club and was impressed with his delivery but little else. Whatever the ALP say about compensation to the people for their Carbon Tax is not to be believed. If it is moved by road or electricity is anywhere in the logistics train then the costs will be passed onto the consumer and these price increases will be driven by actual costs, not a computer model.

The elephant in the room underlying all of his speech, was the fact that the ALP, the political arm of the unions, have been doing all it can to make industrial and commercial development as difficult as possible. The unions are looking for virtual seats on the boards where they can have a say on strategic development.

Imagine CFMEU thugs being involved in management decisions!

I will be waiting with bated breath next week to see the outcome. A Gillard victory for more of the same or a Rudd victory for more of the same.

Either way the country loses and the hole we are in just keeps on getting deeper.
