Council reconsiders
The no-flag issue at Waverly Council gains the council media coverage for two successive days. Today they are reported as having a rethink.
“I have called on the Premier and Mr Turnbull to meet with me to discuss the appropriateness of putting flags on the pavilion and also how it can be funded,” she said.
Just bloody fly them woman. You don’t need funding and you don’t need to involve politicians who have a real job to do.
Ms Main and fellow Green, George Copeland, had led a group of Labor councillors, including Mr Newhouse, Peter Moscatt, John Wakefield and Ingrid Strewe, who wanted to ban the flag from the pavilion, sparking outrage.

You are so right Kev. I hate it when my Council considers the impact of a policy decision on its residents. Like you Kev, I say “Stuff the resisdents”. If its a idea which promotes Nationalism, why should we even bother to examine and consider all the issues.
As an aside, I’ll soon be commencing a petition to enforce all new born children to have the Australian Flag tattoed on their forehead. Failure to do so would mean you are unAustralian and to be immediately transported to Baxter detention centre. I can count on your support I hope !
The council weren’t considering the residents. They were making their own political statement.

Alas, as I don’t have the minutes of the council meeting where this was discussed, I can only assume that’s what they were basing their decision on. Perhaps I’m old fashioned in assuming thats what councils do….ie: think of the best interests of the residents who elected them. I suppose if resisdents didn’t agree with the council, they wouldnt vote for them hey… I mean, thats the justification Howard uses in implimenting his policies. If you dont like them you wont vote for him.

The two flags have been donated by Malcolm Turnbull, the Federal Member for Wentworth and we therefore request that the flag poles be erected by Council.

Otherwise, this is just a straw man argument to distract from the fact that a group of left leaning councilors have overreacted and are now trying to muddy the waters about their decision.
I don’t really see the benefit of a “gotcha” moment if anyone here says they don’t agree with the tattooing idea and can imagine the sneer if somebody said they did.
