A Thing of Beauty
Beauty is definitely in the eyes of the beholder. Sunsets, small children, flowers on a desert, a pretty girl. they’re all fine, but to me, this is beauty. Aesthetic, streamlined (in a rotweillor sort of way), powerful and a ‘toys for boys’ outright winner.
I give you the Tiger chopper coming on-line in the Australian Defence inventory.
I think the Aussie paint job is part of it. I wasn’t nearly so impressed when all I saw of it was the European versions. An artist’s impression I saw somewhere of the MRH-90 in Australian colours has me feeling the same way.
MRH90 looks good up close in Auscam. Italians are fitting M134 miniguns to their versions. I can’t wait to see if we get the same.
I was lucky enough to see it fly a year or so ago … mmmmmmmmmmmmmmm luverlee …
Looked more like a Pitts Special than a chopper, whizzing about at all sorts of unbelievable angles at high speed.
Combine that with Hellfire, multiple rockets, chain gun etc and it gives the ADF a helicopter battlefield presence only dreamed about ’til now.
Beats the shit out of a Kiowa with a nine millimetre pistol in the pilots hand ;~P
The Tiger seems to be passing over my house every week or so on its way out to Amberley. Test flights maybe. Anyway, it’s got a hell of a silhouette — you can’t really miss it, which might actually be a worry. (Side on, I mean — if you’re a bad guy seeing it front on, you’re probably in trouble)
Every dog tag wearer is very careful about offering a side-on target.
Aaahhhh, I love it. A thing of beauty is a joy forever. And it’s about time.
