Douglas Wood Update
Al-Mendhar reports on the Aussie hostage still held captive in Iraq and quote The Australian Grand Mufti as saying – The Hostage was Transported to a Safe Place
Sydney: Sheikh Taj Eddin Al Hilali, Grand Mufti of Muslims in Australia, said that Iraqi clans’ chiefs have informed him that the Australian hostage Douglas Wood has been transported to a safer place and that he has to return to Baghdad to release Wood.More here

It gets up my nose that anyone is relying on this “Mufti” to do anything except advance his own public image in relation to Dougles Wood. He is being credited with some sort of influence with the terrorists that he obviously does not have. Look at the BS statements that have come from his mouthpieces about “imminent release” blah, blah, blah.
What a waste of space. Get out of the way.
I think that whatever influence this man does have with other Muslim communities, particularly those in Iraq, will not have a detrimental effect on Australian – Iraqi relations, rather, I think that any support that we can gather in these communities will allow us to move toward a diplomatic solution that will see Mr Wood free.
On teh other hand, if you are right, and this Mufti is just “showing off” then he might not be doing much good at all.
