ANZAC Cove

Step one achieved. We have the young interested in Gallipoli now all we need to do is teach some of them manners. More bins needed at Gallipoli: PM As a young, and old soldier I always took my rubbish out. As a 4WD enthusiast, when I go bush, I always take my rubbish out. I try to leave nothing but my footprints. At a Dawn Service I would no sooner drop a piece of rubbish than swear in front of my Grandmother. Bins are not the only answer. Manners are. Some rules for the young, and old Aussies at Gallipoli. Rule 1: Take your own rubbish out Rule 2: If there are insufficient bins, refer to Rule One. Rule 3: Don’t sleep on graves. In fact don’t even walk over graves. It is disrespectful. Rule 4: It is not a party. It is not a celebration. It is a commemoration and is a sombre occassion. Rule 5: Do not demand or expect entertainment. (organizers please note) Having said that, I’m glad you are all going there. I just think you need to lift your game a little.

  • From a 27 year old’s point of view and Kev’s youngest daughter, I have been raised to show respect to my elders, especially to our diggers.

I was horrified and even shed a tear watching the news and seeing people sleeping on top of graves, and leaving this sacred site in a disgraceful mannor, to me it looked more like a concert.

I have never been so ashamed of my generation’s lack of respect.

‘Gallipoli needs more bins’ I can not believe they are putting blame on the Turkish authorities. I could not agree more with you Dad, sure it great to see a big turn out this year, but being there is all about showing respect and not a p*ss up/concert/party/camp.

LIFT YOUR GAME, your giving our generation a bad name!

  • I’m pissed off at Howard about this. He would have gained a tonne of respect of he’d dealt a verbal attck on the pigs and dickheads who turned Gallipoli into a party.

  • Well said, Liz. You’re back in my will

  • I’m sorry to hear about that at Gallipoli. A shame.

As an aside, I have to say that I’m always stunned when I see kids in my neighborhood just toss trash out of their car windows. Back in my unguided and wild youth I would have never thought of doing such a thing.

  • There were no bins at the site because the Turkish authorities feared they could be used as cover for explosives. However, there is NO excuse for not carrying out your own rubbish.

I would like to know who paid for that appalling “disco light show” at Anzac Cove. It made a mockery of what should have been a solemn period of respect and remembrance.

As for the camping on top of the graves, words fail me. Ill bred yokels.

  • ‘Mindless idiots display disrespect at Gallipoli for the 90th Anniversary!’ That is what the front page of the newspapers should have read the next day. Once again, I feel the anger rise inside me as I witness yet another display of disrespect. I am not just referring to the disrespect displayed at Gallipoli, but I am also referring to the disrespect shown by the younger generation in general!!!

It seems that community standards have deteriorated so badly, that the people are afraid to walk down the street on their own. This obviously includes those older servicemen and women who fought for the younger generation’s freedom.

Yes, it is easy to look the other way and say ‘well it doesn’t involve me, so I will not do anything about it’. Wrong, it does affect you and it will affect you and your families as they go about living life. The disrespect shown by those mindless cretins at Gallipoli have no excuse for the behavior they displayed.

Disrespect is not a one off at Gallipoli 05 it occurs anywhere on a daily basis. So stand up and be counted. Don’t have the attitude I’m all right jack, what can I do to help, or what’s in it for me. Let’s do something about it by any means legally possible!

I am sure that not everyone who was present at Gallipoli was responsible for bad behaviour. Therefore, I’ll take my cap off to you for making the trip and remembering the sacrifices made by so many young servicemen and women.

The last point I wish to make is what goose in authority decided to play music before the service? The only thing I can come up with as to why music was played was to keep the masses entertained so they did not get bored. If this is so what is waiting a few hours, compared to spending a number of months in a trench! Perhaps a more appropriate video footage to display could have been stories about the Gallipoli landings.

    Good point, Glenn

  • Can anyone show me or point me in the right direction and tell me has anyone interviewed the “Events Co-ordinator” and asked” What the F##K were you thinking?” Dawn service is a rememberence ceremony not a bloody Rock Concert. Those pricks are just as responsible for the shameful display as the litterbugs.

  • The idiot Veterans Affairs Minister De-Anne Kelly has put up her hand saying that she was the one that thought Beegees “Stayin’ Alive” was appropriate because they needed to keep the audience awake.

    The woman is a cretin.

I hope that no-one ever has to go to her for a decision on real veteran’s issues before she gets the sack, which is richly deserved.

  • Perhaps the little precious darlings weren’t accompanied by their potty trainers and hand holders employed by states’ govts. called teachers.

Bring back the old schoolmaster, birch in one hand, chalk in the other, glass of soapy mouth rinse on the desk. very much needed these days.
