Habib has PTSD

MAMDOUH Habib and his psychiatrist are at loggerheads with the federal Government over an attempt by the commonwealth to obtain the former Guantanamo Bay detainee’s medical file. The psychiatrist, Chris Tennant, professor of psychiatry at Sydney University, shows his colours with this statement;
He has sought advice from the Medical Defence Union and plans to resist any attempt to force him to provide the file. “I’m happy to give it to the AAT, but not to the Government. I’m not prepared to hand it over, in effect, to ASIO, because that’s where it would end up — in the hands of Mr Habib’s enemies,” he said.
I don’t know about the good doctor but Habib’s enemies are my friends. Marvelous isn’t it. a digger suffers from PSTD occasioned by fighting enemies of Australia and eventually gets to see a garden variety psychiatrist; a guy who trained with al-Qa’ida claims PTSD and gets Emeritus Professor Chris Tennant. Strange world!

  • In the greater scheme of things, Tennant is probably correct in demanding patient/ doctor confidentiality. It also says a lot about the Prof’s idealogical stance, nothing too far from the standard lefty lockstep academic.
However, Mamdouh Habib is very much “a person of interest”, and it would be very prejudicial to this country to allow him to fly in and out as he pleases. The AAT should ensure that he is never given a passport and if he chooses to exit Australia illegally, he is never allowed to return.
That grub is one “citizen” we could without, and I hope that ASIO is watching his every move.

  • Tennant is prepared to give the file to the AAT who might help his case but not to ASIO who are trying to protect us. He is being selective with his patient confidentiality.

ASIO will be watching him, I’m sure,

  • Dear Kev

I suppose a tough “ex digger” like yourself would not suffer the ille effects of torture in Egypt and the eyars he spent in Guantanamo Bay.

Incidentally the only moment of sanity from the Bush regime is from the new defense secretary Gates who wants it shut down.

I suppose he will be intimidated by that fool Cheney.

  • Peter,
The tough ‘ex digger” has nothing to do with it. It is the smart and patriot ex digger in me that would preclude me from fighting with, or giving support to, the enemy.

  • Dear Kev

If they had evdeince – why hasn’t he been charged.

Gitmo is a joke – on the US.

Easy to accsue but hard to prove in a rea;l court of law not a kangarro court run by the US Miliitary.

When are you going to realise that the US has stuffed up in Iraq, Gitmo, and now probably in Afghansiatn.

Looks like pakistan will also fall to the etsremists. Good results all rounf for the US and the idiots Bush and Cheney.

    I suppose you miss Rumsfeld.
