Sedition Laws

Now that the ACTU/ALP commentariat have predicatbly lost the IR battle they now attack the sedition laws. At larvatusprodeo Mark tries to build a case for the government to arrest him because he’s buying and reading anarchist books and in so doing is financially supporting sedition. The Sedition Laws have been in existance longer than most Left wing Howard haters have and this is the first time in all those years that the Left feel they propose a threat. To answer your stupid question – no Mark, you will not be arrested for buying stupid anarchist books. What you have to do is publically encourage people to take over the government by violent means; to encourage or teach terrorist to blow up Parliament House or the Sydney Harbour Bridge. You need to do something like go overseas and complete a terrorist course on explosions and suicide bombing and then return to Australia and try and conduct a terrorist mission. The country and it’s policing agencies are well used to the Left wing’s pathetic posturing on these matters and treat them with the ignore they deserve. The Left’s issue about free speach is a non issue. Laws already exist that limit free speach; It’s OK to dissent, to call Howard a war monger, or in my case, Whiltam a fool . That’s OK but as soons as I threaten to kill Whitlam it’s not. In the meantime, inspite of this pathetic posturing, the Sedition Laws will be maintained and ASIO et al will be able to lock up terrorists prior to their blowing up Australian citizens. Like the IR laws guys, the new Anti-Terror bill is going to become law and as a result, Australia will be a better and safer place.

Blast ‘kills al-Qaeda commander’

From the BBC. Pakistan says a top al-Qaeda commander has been killed in the country’s tribal belt along the Afghan border.
Egyptian-born Abu Hamza Rabia, described as al-Qaeda’s operational commander, was among five militants killed in a blast in North Waziristan.
MSNBC reports that bringing Hamza Rabia to justice was a CIA operation
Local residents said that the men were killed by an unknown number of missiles fired by an unmanned Predator aircraft. The witnesses said that missile remnants bearing U.S. markings remain in the area. They also said they had heard six explosions, but it is uncertain how many of these were the result of missile attacks and how many may have been the result of the missiles detonating explosives inside the safehouse.
Good stuff.

The Swords of Righteousness in for a torrid time

Four peace activists taken hostage in Iraq were shown in an insurgent video broadcast on Arab television today, with a previously unknown group claiming responsibility for the kidnapping.

The Swords of Righteousness Brigade said the four were spies working undercover as Christian peace activists, al-Jazeera television news reported. The station said it could not verify any of the information on the tape.

The Swords of Righteousness and four righteous, holier than thou peace activists…should make for some cutting conversations but then they are most probably just being briefed.

What’s the odds the Swords of Righteousness will get sick and tired of the activists simpering, snivelling preaching and throw them out?

UPDATE: The group’s media advisor has obviously told them that The Swords of Righteousness tag is too clumsy in English so today they are reported as the Swords of Truth Brigade.

If it’s all about truth I wonder then, what they will make of this statement.

A statement released by the Christian Peacemaker Team said: “We are angry because what has happened to our teammates is the result of the actions of the US and UK governments due to the illegal attack on Iraq and the continuing occupation and oppression of its people.”

I would’ve thought what happened to their teammates was the result of;

■ putting themselves in a position to be kidnapped, and
■ being kidnapped by the Truth chaps.

A bit old-fashioned of me, I know, but it comes under the heading of being responsible for your own actions.

Bali mourners were terror target

JEMAAH Islamiah mastermind Azahari bin Husin was planning a suicide bomb attack on the memorial service held in Kuta last month for the 202 people who died in the Bali nightclub bombings three years ago.
Intelligence sources in Indonesia told The Australian the document, found on a computer disc carried by one of Azahari’s JI colleagues, detailed the plan to bomb the memorial service. It was abandoned only because of the high level of security at the service.
Australian and Indonesians agents have saved lives but certain Australians will still complain about the draconian anti-terror laws that impinge on our rights yet enable the agencies to protect us. Strange.

Who’s winning?

A good post on just who is winning the war in Iraq from Samizdata
When it comes to the future of Iraq, there is a deep disconnect between those who have firsthand knowledge of the situation — Iraqis and U.S. soldiers serving in Iraq — and those whose impressions are shaped by doomsday press coverage and the imperatives of domestic politics.
Both Samizdata’s post and the links are worth reading.

Hicks takes Brit bid to High Court

The British government will be duty-bound to get Australian Guantanamo detainee David Hicks released as soon as possible if the High Court reverses a Home Office decision rejecting his application to become a citizen, his lawyer says. No they won’t
Hicks, formerly of Adelaide, applied to become a British citizenship but was denied by the Home Office on the grounds that he fought alongside the Taliban in Afghanistan.
And that’s why. Funny, isn’t it. Australia has wiped their hands of Hick so his mouthpiece tries a new tack. Now the Brits have wiped their hands of Hicks as well maybe the message is getting through.

Banned bullets not banned

Banned bullets ‘used in tube shooting’ says London correspondents THE Brazilian man mistaken for a suicide bomber and shot dead by British police was killed with a type of bullet banned in warfare under international law, a newspaper reported today. Outside of the fact that the shooting was a tragic error the use of hollow point rounds has some merit.
It is believed the decision was influenced by the tactics used by air marshals on passenger jets – where such bullets are designed to splinter in the body and not burst the fuselage, it said. They have been assessed as posing less risk to people around the suicide bomber than conventional bullets but the effect on victims is devastating, it said.
Fair enough but the piece loses it’s impact with this line
However, there is no legal ban on British police use of such ammunition, it said.
So the bullets aren’t banned. It’s just a case of journalists trying to keep the heat on those who try and stem the flow of terrorism.

Oh my God…now they’re using Willy Pete

Oh my God. The US are using weapons of war in a war

ROME — Italian television aired a documentary yesterday alleging that the United States had used white phosphorus shells ”in a massive and indiscriminate way” against civilians in the November 2004 offensive in the Iraqi town of Fallujah.

“White phosphorus kills indiscriminately.”says My Way News. So do most weapons of war dipshit. Artillery shells, machine guns, rockets, hand grenades and air delivered bombs all have the ability to kill indiscriminately. The big difference is the Coalition do not deliberately target woman and kids. The terrorists do – like car bombs at employment queues.

Maybe the same Italian company could make a documentary about these guys and how they deliberately target non-combatants.

Wonder if the MSM would pick it up and run with it?

Nah.

Thugs charged

Police have charged the animals who attacked the media outside the courtroom in Melbourne.
FIVE men allegedly involved in a brawl with media outside the Melbourne Magistrates’ Court have been charged with affray. They are alleged to be the men filmed attacking media waiting outside the court last Tuesday while suspects from the counter-terrorism raids were inside.
Don’t know abaout ‘alleged’ Millions saw their dog pack actions. All five were charged with affray and other assault-related offences that could land them in the slammer for 5 years or more. Good idea. Let them suffer before we deport them to the land of their fathers.

Brisbane bomb scare

An anonymously phoned in bomb threat will stop all bus and train services in Brisbane for the second time today.
BUS, train and ferry services in Brisbane were stopped this morning and passengers evacuated after an anonymous caller made threats against the city’s public transport network. Queensland Premier Peter Beattie said this afternoon that the threat would cause all bus and train services in Brisbane to be suspended again between 4.45pm and 5.15pm (AEST) this afternoon.
Mr Beattie said the Government was being “over-cautious” about the threatening phone calls.
