The magic missile

Not surprisingly the left have attacked an article that raise questions about the ambulance supposedly hit by an Israeli missile during the most recent Middle East war.  When Downer quoted the article on Zombie it was just too much for them.
“What concerns me greatly is the evidence of dishonesty in the reporting out of Lebanon,” Downer said, adding later that “it is beyond serious dispute that this episode has all the makings of a hoax”.
The Australian carries a piece by Martin Chulov who has never met an anti-Israel that he didn’t like, who in retaliation merely recycles the original propaganda quoting locals as if they haven’t got an agenda.

I was in Tyre on the night of the attack and investigated the incident closely the next day. On July 24, with photographer Stewart Innes, we spoke to Qassem Shalin, who was recovering from a minor wound to his chin that nurses had bandaged to stop it from turning septic. We also visited Ahmed Mohammed Fawaz, whose lower left leg had been amputated and whose severe burns ironically had saved his life by sealing blood vessels and arteries. His son writhed in pain nearby, his stomach riddled with shrapnel and the rear of his scalp opened up.

OK, emotive but it doesn’t prove they received their injuries in the ambulance and visiting the alleged ambulance the next day doesn’t do much for his case either.

The original issue of the story showed the ambulance with a neat hole in the centre of the roof as proof of an Israeli missile strike and whereas the the vehicle could’ve taken a hit, it was much earlier than claimed and was, if anything, an airburst.  No missile entered that vehicle and exploded and after 25 years in the army I can confidentially state that’s a ballistic fact.

Chulov says he visited Qassem Shalin (Shaalan in a Times piece) who has been quoted as saying the missile punched a hole in the roof, as if that is proof positive of the event.  He  said so, ergo, it is true, is hardly proof positive.

We know that this type of propaganda is a terrorist tactic; they’ve done it before and will do it again and why not if the press accept it at face value.

It works.  The majority of the press believe it because they want to and the mug punters cop it as they get all their news from Channel Nine or similar and never question what a prima donna talking head says.

Media dupes

You may recall the ambulance in the Israeli/Hezbollah recent dispute.  You know, the one that the Israelis ‘deliberately’ rocketed…at least that was the view of the world media. Personally, when I saw the pic of the missile hole through the roof I instantly dismissed it as bullshit and went on with life. How could I have been so sure? Vehicle hit by missile…..   …….vehicle taken from wreckers yard and definitely not hit by missile.  Note the windscreen has collapsed inwards.  In my experience, and I have heaps, missiles and other ordnance, having penetrated a target, always explode and never ever impode.  Simple Infantry stuff.  [In a previous life I was an anti-tank gunner/driver] The media gratefully accepted the incident at face value as they wanted to believe it and flogged it for all it was worth.  Remember the Israeli Captain being interviewed…We never intentionaly target civilians or ambulances. Sure, said the media presenter and interspersed shots of wounded ambulance occupiers with a loop of the captain saying We…never…intentionaly…target…civilians…or…ambulances. Good media but now it might be reasonable to get that same presenter and have him say, in a loop, just like the Captain, that We, [the media] always take the viewpoint of the terrorists without checking details because we want to believe it. Why?  Go to Zombie and view the article and all will become clear to you.  Posted in the interests of pointing out the lies of the enemy we face. Via Tim Blair and Michelle Malkin

Comments fixed

For those of my readers who tried to leave a comment over the past week and failed I apologise – even if the comment was an attack.  The problem has now been fixed with a Word Press upgrade and all should be OK.

Truth in jest

Not often I find something worth quoting at Tim Dunlops “How Howard lied today” blog but a comment by tim g rates a mention.
Here’s my prediction: when we eventually have a nuclear holocaust and the only surviving life forms are cockroaches, the cockroaches in the Middle East will start fighting each other.

‘Miracle’ of psalm book found in bog

DUBLIN: The accidental discovery of an ancient book of psalms – found last week when a construction worker drove the shovel of his backhoe into a bog – has been heralded as a miracle by Ireland’s archeologists.

The book, of about 20 pages, has been dated to AD800-1000 and is the first discovery of an Irish early medieval document in two centuries, according to Trinity College manuscripts expert Bernard Meehan.

I do like this;

The book was found open to a page describing, in black-letter Latin script, Psalm 83, in which God hears complaints of other nations’ attempts to wipe out the name of Israel.
There’s an opening for some religious nut to start another conspiracy theory here…better than Nostradamus…it’s a message from God……the end of the world is nigh. You can take it from there guys.

Dual Nationality

25,000 Australians, 10,000 Britons,an estimated 40,000 Canadians, most of the 25,000 Americans there,1200 Belgians and about 1000 Danes all living in Lebanon with dual nationality. About 100,000 Lebanese, out of a population of 3.8m, have voted for the security and social standing of their country by having a Plan B for life’s little problems. But what annoys me is that 25,000 Australian’s have done the same. I’m also annoyed that we have immigrants who select Australia as a destination because they can come here, do absolutley nothing and get given, free of obligations, considerably more money than they could have earnt back home working long hours. It’s not the type of committment I would look for in aspirational Aussies. I do not agree with dual nationality in any way, shape or form and I believe the people who choose to come to Australia should have sufficient committment to their new country and sufficient competancy in English so as to fascilitate gaining employment. Just in case anyone is in doubt of my thoughts, I’ll state them in one line. No committment, no language competancy, no welcome!

New Honda

2007 Honda Goldwing Starting in spring 2006, Honda’s flagship motorcycle will be available with the world’s first motorcycle airbag, able to inflate in 0.06 second and fully absorb the rider’s forward energy in 0.15 second (less time than it takes to blink an eye). This innovation represents a major advance in motorcycle safety. I suppose it could help if the prang was strictly in-line with the bike and no forces whatsoever impacted on the trajectory of the rider otherwise he slides and hurts like every other rider. I remember when the Goldwing first came out a writer in Sydney commented “God help you if you put it down in a slide because he’s the only one capable of getting it back on it’s wheels again!” *No matter how hard I look, I can’t see the ashtray! *from the old saying… as useless as an ashtray on a motorbike..or a hip pocket in a singlet…or…nevermind, you get my drift.

This beats my $150 speeding fine

Don’t get caught in speeding in Jeddah
JEDDAH, 20 July 2006 — At the police station they registered my name and time of entry. It was 5.10 p.m. I was searched and deprived of my cigarettes, then escorted to a jail cell. This would be my home for the next 24 hours. My charge? Driving 160 kilometers per hour down Jeddah’s Madinah Road.
The law says you spend at least 24 hours in a jail cell and your car gets impounded for getting caught exceeding the speed limit. If you can’t pay the fine — SR500 (AUD 177)for speeding — then you get the pleasure of an additional 48 hours in the cage. (You also pay SR150 later to get your car out of impound.) Wonder what happens when you rack up 12 points?

First the Dems, now the Greens

After last weeks revelation that the South Australian drug promoter Democrat supported ecstacy we find the Victorian Greens are advocating further use of herion; free for the addict, of course.
FACTORY-produced heroin will be imported into Australia and prescribed for long-term addicts under the Victorian Greens’ drugs policy.
Greens Victorian upper house candidate Colleen Hartland said the proposals would reduce harm and save lives. Not to mention it would also increase the crime rate, the prison population, the incidences of granny bashing to supplement a fix when the free stuff runs out and ruin the lives of those associated with the addicts. Good call Greens.
The Greens heroin trial proposal mirrors equivalent moves in Europe and Vancouver, Canada, where prescription heroin is given to addicts who have become resistant to methadone.
Oh well! If they are doing it in Europe and Canada then it must be OK…. I think not . I’m never impressed with the ‘they do it in Europe therefore we should‘ arguement. With few exceptions we need to lead, not follow. To me, supporting substance abuse is admitting defeat on the eve of the battle..I’m for always trying to help the adicts kick their particular habit . If some fall through the cracks then so be it but I can’t see punters being happy about giving addicts free fixes. I know I’m not. UPDATE: Naturaly enough the Australian agrees with me, albeit a day later. Scroll down to High times in Victoria; Another reason to keep the Greens in the wilderness

It’s all about communication

UNIVERSITY graduates from non-English speaking backgrounds who emigrate to Australia are far less likely to land jobs in their field of expertise than native English speakers. I wonder if Bob Birrell, the director of the Centre for Population and Urban Research at Monash University received any money for this motherhood statement. The situation exists because we let them in without insisting on them being profficient in english. How can they communicate or even submit a resume if they can’t speak our language? All we are doing here is importing social security applicants. We’re not talking displaced refugees here who have a case to come into Australia without english, we’re talking professionals.
“Professional bodies should be setting higher standards based on actual evidence of what is required to operate as a professional in the Australian market. Some applicants are getting visas based on an assessment that they are capable of working in their profession when in fact some of them can’t even get jobs.”
Why do we let them in?
